However, it relies on OpenAI’s services to function, and OpenAI does charge for the data usage. To use CotranslatorAI, you’ll need to create an account with OpenAI. When you sign up, OpenAI provides you with a small amount of free credit to get started. You can also set a limit on how much data you want to use, which helps you control your expenses. For the typical data volumes used by translators, the cost of using OpenAI’s services is low.

4. How does CotranslatorAI ensure data confidentiality?

CotranslatorAI is installed on your computer and establishes a direct and exclusive end-to-end encrypted connection from your computer to the AI model through the API. This is achieved without any intermediary servers, and no data is sent to us or anywhere else, ensuring that your data remains confidential and secure at all times.

5. How can I create and use customized shortcuts in CotranslatorAI?

You can define an unlimited number of your own customized shortcuts (called quick prompts) which allow you to transform content instantly within your translation workflow. With CotranslatorAI, there’s no need to enter text into the app or ChatGPT – simply use your quick prompts for fast content transformation.

CotranslatorAI works effortlessly within any program in Windows, including translation management systems like Trados Studio, memoQ, Phrase, and others, both on the desktop or in the browser. 9. What’s the difference between accessing ChatGPT through CotranslatorAI and the public web interface?

OpenAI provides two distinct methods for accessing the GPT model: ChatGPT and the API.

ChatGPT is accessed through a web interface via your browser. The Plus plan, priced at $20/month, includes access to both GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.0 models, with the latter being limited to 25 messages per three hours. This subscription service is designed for general use.

CotranslatorAI, on the other hand, is accessed using an API key that you sign up for separately. It offers GPT-3.5 by default, while GPT-4.0 access is granted on a case-by-case basis. Unlike the ChatGPT Plus plan, CotranslatorAI operates on a pay-as-you-go model, charging you only for the data used. For users with moderate data needs, this option can be more cost-effective.

It’s important to note that these are separate accounts. If you have CotranslatorAI API access and desire ChatGPT Plus, you’ll need to subscribe separately using your other OpenAI account.

10. I have a Mac; do you have CotranslatorAI for Mac? Or is it only for Windows?

It is only a Windows program.

11. I already have an OpenAI account for ChatGPT+. Can I use that with CotranslatorAI?

The OpenAI account you have for ChatGPT+ is completely different from the one you will set up for API access for CotranslatorAI. You can’t use just one account for both.

12. Do you have access to my API key?

No. CotranslatorAI is designed to protect your privacy. We don’t have access to any of your information, including your API key. Furthermore, our email partner MailChimp keeps only your name and email address in a GDPR-compliant way, and you can unsubscribe at your convenience. OpenAI also follows published data privacy standards and doesn’t retain your data.

13. Does CotranslatorAI store my confidential customer data or use it for any other purpose beyond delivering it to OpenAI’s servers?

No, CotranslatorAI does not save or repurpose your confidential customer data. It functions merely as a bridge between you and the OpenAI servers, not interacting with your data or your computer beyond this. Our API calls are sent directly to OpenAI using a secure HTTPS connection.

CotranslatorAI only communicates with our servers under two conditions:

1. To validate the registration code during your initial registration. This detail is then stored securely in your Windows registry.
2. To check for CotranslatorAI updates by sharing your installed version information. This usually occurs at each start of CotranslatorAI and can be customized via the update list dialog when updates are available.
